Lovely Friendly Family Run Hotel with Excellent Food
Myself and my partner went here in February 2012. We never booked anywhere and we found this hotel right beside the waterfront in Kilkee co. Clare. When we went to book hotel we were shown the room which was quite spacious and very clean so we took the room. The price was quite reasonable as well. We went down to dinner and the menu was well priced with a lot of choice. We had decided that if the food was food we would stay the next night which was valentine’s night. The food was gorgeous which good portions do we booked the second night. As it was valentine’s night we also booked dinner which was a very good price of 25 euro per person for three courses and a glass of champagne. We went to the bar and had a great chat with the friendly barman who told us lots about the area. The next morning we had a lovely breakfast and headed off for the day. Our meal the next night was superb. We will definitely go back to this hotel as it is little gem in Kilkee. Thanks very much for a lovely two days. Hope to return in the near future Deirdre and Paul

Superb Food, Service & Ambience
Just back from another trip to Kilkee, the most relaxing venue I have ever found anywhere! This time we rented a house but as always spent a lot of time eating and drinking in the Stella Maris. The hospitality is top class and the food quality is always of a very high standard. I would heartily recommend the hotel either as a place to stay or to eat or just to have a drink or a coffee in comfortable friendly surroundings.

Excellent Family Run Hotel
This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in; the room was more than big enough for a family of four: it had enough space to dance in!! The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of the seaside town which enabled the children to have more independence than usual. The food was fantastic and the breakfast was more than substantial to start the day. The staff work extremely hard in this hotel and deserve every bit of credit! The only problem was that our stay couldn’t be longer… Thank you Ann & family & staff!!!!
See you again next year. Ellie, Martin & boys x

Excellent Seaside Hotel
Visited for one night in September, The lady on reception could not have been more efficient or friendly. Got a beautiful room overlooking the bay. We were warned that the music from the bar might keep us awake. It was nice to be warned and it wasn’t a problem. Spotless modern room and great shower. Breakfast was first class (served by the same lovely lady that checked us in.) Will be back next year!

Fine, Sweet, Ageless Family-Run Hotel
Stella Maris is another of those fine, sweet, ageless family-run hotels that survive so well in Clare, and which suit the character of the county so snugly..
The design isn’t cutting edge, the cooking isn’t molecular gastronomy, and changes and improvements are made patiently, when the time is right, and that’s why everything here feels just so right, so together, an echo of times past in times present, things done just the way they should be, just the way they have always been. Ann Haugh and her family run this elegantly simple hotel just the way they have always done, with hospitality to the forefront, with good honest cooking – do ask in the afternoon if they can arrange some lobster for your dinner that evening – with all the fundamentals of treating the guest as an honoured visitor always paramount in their mind.

Child & Pet-Friendly
Aside from its appeal as a golfing destination, the seaside town of Kilkee is the traditional family holiday destination par excellence – many regulars would say there is nowhere else to be during the long Irish summer holidays. Many visitors find a real ‘sense of Clare’ at Ann and Martin Haugh’s long established family-run hotel, which is very well located in the centre of Kilkee, overlooking the bay and just a few yards from the beach.
Child and pet-friendly, with clean simple accommodation including two family rooms, this is not a smart or fashionable place to stay but there is a great sense of hospitality, and the rooms have been upgraded. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and the overall feeling is one of traditional old-fashioned comfort. And you will eat well too: generous, wholesome food based on local ingredients (seafood from nearby Carrigaholt, Burren lamb) is served in the both the bars and restaurant – this warm and friendly hotel is just the place for a relaxed family holiday.
Wonderful Weekend in Kilkee
I just got home from Kilkee and have to share what a great time I had! I have never visited Ireland before, but what will definitely go back again! We based ourselves at the Stella Maris, and from the time we arrived we were made to feel truly spoilt. We arrived early but no matter, we were welcomed and served tea while enjoying a beautiful view of the bay. This family run hotel gave us a true flavour of the warmth and charm of the local area and people. Our rooms were spotlessly clean, very comfortable and spacious and while I didn’t have a sea view, (I hadn’t specified I wanted one) it didn’t really matter. I was in the room at bedtime, and out again first thing to enjoy that amazing view in real life.
You cant come to Ireland and not expect the locals to be showing you how to have a good time, the bars and restaurants were all bustling and friendly, and the food… I have never eaten such delicious food. I am vegetarian, but it was no problem and the meals that the chef prepared were the best I have ever had, and this is really no exaggeration. Nothing was too much bother for the staff, and coupled with their local pride and knowledge, we were never short of suggestions for great things to do. We walked miles, experienced glorious views and I can now say I had a great swim in the Pollock holes! The hotel is great value for money. The best thing from a personal perspective, was that I came away feeling relaxed, refreshed and that I had had a weeks holiday in 4 days. The worst thing has to come back to reality. I would recommend a visit to Kilkee, and most certainly a stay at the Stella Maris.
